Dear Little and Very Little Ones! I have brought you some more games to improve balance. They help coordinate movements which contribute to the development of writing-drawing fine motor skills and speaking.
- Roly-poly game: Ask the child to sit on the ground with straight legs, without having the hands on the ground. Then, after a sign, carefully push the child to one side to get him/her out of balance. Wait until (s)he gets it back. You can change the sign from time to time, but always talk about it first, so the child can get prepared. If it is going well, you can also play this roly-poly game sitting cross-legged (making a bow with the legs ). In case you have any swings at home, it is great to swing in it repeating a nursery rhyme.
- Then, look for a long scarf and place it on the ground. Let the child crawl on it on all fours, then walk on it with small steps. (S)he can also try walking backward slowly, without looking back. Now fold the scarf to make it more narrow, and the child can crawl, walk on it forward and back again. If the child still wants to stay active, you can make this exercise even more challenging if you place the sock of last week’s games on the top of the child’s head. Then (s)he can try the same exercises without losing the package.
- Our last game is about stepping. Place papers on the ground where the children can get step by step. Fold the papers in half (this movement helps concentration and fine motor skills) and if our little one can already walk on them, fold them in half again. These ones will be very small, but it is a great sense of achievement if the kids can succeed.
I wish you a pleasant playing time 🙂
