Spring is here

Nature awakens in spring with the first sunny days in March. In the Forest Tale Daycare we pay attention to the changes spring brings us, we will tell tales and talk a lot about the changes of nature and the weather. 22nd of March is the World Water Day, this is why we tell stories, rhymes and sing about water and its cycle. Now we offer some ideas for your kids to observe the awakening of nature and the value of water at home, too.
Games at home

  • Creating animals from grass: Put 3 spoonful of grass seeds into a stocking then put chip or soil on it. Close the stocking and create a shape you like. You can use thread or rubber band to fix the ears, the nose and eyes. Soak the animals in water for 15 minutes then water them daily. It is important to put a pot or a glass under it since water will drip. Give them water every day and observe the first offsets after 3-5 days. You can create a hedgehog, a bear, even a monkey.
  • Seedling in a glass jar: Let’s observe how a plant develops from the seed. You will need a clean glass jar, paper towels and seeds. Put the paper towels into the jar, water it properly then put the seed between the glass and the paper towels. Put it in a warm place and choose different types of seeds (for example: beans, lentil, mustard-seed, radish-seed, wheat), in order to observe the offset of the different seeds.

Outdoor games

  • You can observe the awakening of spring in the nature, too. It is fun to choose a tree, that you cross every day, and observe the changes of it from time to time: flowers develop from offsets; leaves grow and turn into a thick crown. To record the changes create a picture book.
  • World Water Day is celebrated in March. This month offers us the chances to observe the different states of matter of water and also to talk about the cycle of water. Ice melts, it rains a lot and sunshine evaporates it. Water helps plants and trees to awake. Let’s have a look at the different states of matter outside in puddles, or you can experiment with a bowl of water and look how it freezes, melts and evaporates.
