Green month in the Forest Tale Daycare

October is the month of environmental protection, environment-friendly lifestyle and green thinking in the Downtown Community Center. How does the eco-conscious approach appear in the life of the Forest Tale Daycare?

We work with a project method in the Forest Tale Daycare, kids take part in a thematic activity at 11 o’clock each day, on the basis of previously designed plans. The topics of the weeks and months are centered around the given season, weather, holidays and the needs of the group of children. We differentiate during the activities on the basis of the skills and the interests of the kids. We build the activities thoughtfully, to develop all skills and abilities since most of these kids don’t attend any other activities of other institutions.

On Mondays we tell tales and stories and work with these with different techniques and methods. On Tuesdays we practice the big movements. On Wednesdays we sing, play with rhythm, and pay attention to listening with the help of different musical instruments. On Thursdays we are creative and offer do-it-yourself activities for the kids. On Fridays we get to know our planet and the nature around us.

This month we allow you to have a glimpse into one of our weeks so you can be part of the Green month. In October our topic is the protection of our planet, recycling and awareness. Let’s join us, let’s protect our environment!

We start the week with a really interesting story and we also play it for the kids with the help of puppets made by us. Vlagyimir Szutyejev’s „Under the Mushroom” is perfect for the kids to learn that everybody has a place under the mushroom which has grown its cap thanks to the rain.

On Tuesday we will go for an imagined walk into the autumn forest, we will meet different phenomena and challenges: climb a mountain, cross a river and collect the rubbish on its bank. Jumping, bending, squats, stretching and doing arm circles will be needed to accomplish the upcoming tasks.

For Wednesday we bring rhythm musical instruments from recycled materials to sing and to play music. A plastic bottle filled with rice or sand or boxes filled with small pebbles are perfect to practice smooth rhythms. We will learn some rhymes about autumn, too.

On Thursday we create a bird feeder from reused and natural materials. We will use newspaper, straw, small and big twigs. We will put sunflower seeds into the feeders since we know this is the favorite of the city birds.

On the last day of the week we will learn about the states of water and its circulation. Kids can touch ice, see how it melts in the warm room. We will talk about the difference between the tap water and water in nature and see a really interesting experiment, too.

Let’s join us this month and let’s try to be green together!
