The green measures of the 5th District’s Local Government have been broadened. Green areas are being increased in case of development of public space; support for creating green areas and bicycle stands for multi household buildings is also available; the local government regularly organizes the collection of hazardous waste; it accomplishes innovations in schools, for example the green wall, or the implementation of root cells and Stockholm system in planting trees, or the establishment of green bus stops. In addition to these green measures last year the local government introduced its contribution to washable diapers and from this school year a support for the purchase of environment-friendly means of transport is also available.

The support for washable diapers is available from the 1st of January 2021. The aim is to reduce the waste produced by using disposable diapers and also to make the financial costs of families with little children smaller. The local government offers a support of 30.000 – 60.000 Ft for washable diapers. Using washable diapers has several advantages: it is worth the price, more comfortable to wear as opposed to the disposable ones, skin-caring (which is extremely important in case of babies suffering from atopic dermatitis) and you won’t forget to buy them, since you don’t run out of them.

The local government has been taking over the costs of the public transportation monthly pass of 6-25-year-old downtown students for a long time. Mayor Péter Szentgyörgyvölgyi supported the free usage of public transportation of 6-14-year-old children within the General Assembly of Budapest, and based on the practice of the 5th district he suggested broadening the age limits to high school students and young adults, too. The financial framework, that was earlier spent on the monthly pass of 6-14-year-old students, is used now to support environment-friendly means of transport and from this school year the local government contributes to the purchase of bike, scooter and roller-skates of 6-14-year-old downtown children with the amount of 34.500 Ft.
